Vahallan Hand-Painted Wall Coverings
Nov. 15, 2024
While most wallpapers are colored with printing machines, Vahallan’s are hand-painted, and “most textures are made with our fingers,” per Dan Nelson, founder and owner of Vahallan.
The firm has remained true to its original “hand-painted” mandate, but over the years, Nelson has broadened his definition of “hand-painted wallpaper” to include the use of trowels, screens, stencils and brushes (Nelson calls these “finger extensions”) and he’s added other materials to create unexpected textures and lighting effects.
For example, the ”Enchanted” series embeds tiny bits of cork and miniscule-size glass beads that refract light and appear to glow when light hits the paper at certain angles. and the “Crystalline,” collection features shards of mineral that receive a treatment of sparkling metallic flake for a bold lustrous statement.
Vahallan’s journey has been remarkable, marked by consistent growth, and they are poised for continued expansion. As the resurgence of wallpaper endures, Vahallan remains at the forefront, committed to this renaissance.
